We have many important questions to address regarding the climate and biodiversity crises – how can we even find visions for new ways of living together that do not disrupt the balance of the Earth?
We invite you to a conversation focused on your visions and ideas – and we come together over a meal because that’s what we have always done – gathering and eating to exchange who we are and where we are heading.

Duration: 90 mins.

Solastalgia is a neologism formed by the combination of the Latin word sōlācium (comfort) and the Greek root -algia (pain, suffering, grief), describing a form of emotional or existential distress caused by climate change. Through a journey into a series of vocal plateaus, participants will explore this grief, this solastalgia, through vibration, song, and sound arrangements from ‘the book of songs’. Accompanied by opera singer Lucie Curé and with scenography by Dicki Lakha, Madeleine Kate McGowan will invite participants on a journey through inner landscapes that explore the possibilities of freeing the voice as a way of living in times of crisis.
During the unfolding of the work, there will be collective sharing of testimonies that articulate the emotional landscapes associated with the climate crisis and the weaving of kvas into habitats that will be donated to the multi-species community in Helsingør.
INFO
Age: From 12 years
Duration: You can come and go as you please during the time period
Note: SOLASTALGIA is performed in both Danish and English.
PASSAGE Planet is a platform at the festival that addresses the human situation in connection with the climate crisis. It aims to create space for sharing thoughts with each other and inspire hope. It is an invitation to share concerns about the time we live in and the climate crisis with each other through conversations, songs, and creative workshops.
At PASSAGE Planet, you can meet the artist Linh Le and experience her work The city as citizen, the city as species, which examines endangered species through a procession through the city and a giant heap of soil. As a prelude, you can participate in Mask workshops and knitting workshops in the days leading up to the performance. The artwork was originally showcased at the Metropolis Festival in ’22 but is now specially recreated for Helsingør.
You can also meet the artist Madeleine Kate McGowan and experience her work “SOLASTALGIA – Book of Songs“, an audience-engaging choir work that invites reflection on climate-related grief. There will be singing, collection and collective sharing of mental testimonies, as well as collective braiding of twigs.
Finally, Susanne Danig will host a Climate Dinner and conversation, and she will be available for necessary conversations throughout the day.
There is also an opportunity to knot recycled fabric scraps or braid twigs, which will later become habitats for mushrooms and insects, as well as a food source for local birds.
Come to Vor Frue Kloster to talk, sing, build, knot, or participate in rituals and help create a community for Earth’s species. Sing out your climate grief, find your fellow species, and your inner climate warrior.
PASSAGE Planet is for everyone, and you can come and go and participate to the extent you desire throughout the day.

The ritual ends by sunset.

When Adam meets Juliet, it is not just the story of two young people with a taste for forbidden fruit. It is at the same time two of world literature’s greatest dramas – The Old Testament and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet – which are shaken into an explosive, juicy, socially satirical cocktail.
And yes, it all takes place here in Paradis, but Adam is from Jutland and Julie is from Tingbjerg. Clear division lines are drawn.
The band’s name is “Lawyers from Hell”, and it doesn’t give up when “hygge” Denmark gets a well-deserved spanking in a crazy theater concert!
