PASSAGE Planet

Come and join us in exploring the climate and biodiversity crisis.

PASSAGE Planet is a platform at the festival that addresses the human situation in connection with the climate crisis. It aims to create space for sharing thoughts with each other and inspire hope. It is an invitation to share concerns about the time we live in and the climate crisis with each other through conversations, songs, and creative workshops.

At PASSAGE Planet, you can meet the artist Linh Le and experience her work The city as citizen, the city as species, which examines endangered species through a procession through the city and a giant heap of soil. As a prelude, you can participate in Mask workshops and knitting workshops in the days leading up to the performance. The artwork was originally showcased at the Metropolis Festival in ’22 but is now specially recreated for Helsingør.

You can also meet the artist Madeleine Kate McGowan and experience her work “SOLASTALGIA – Book of Songs“, an audience-engaging choir work that invites reflection on climate-related grief. There will be singing, collection and collective sharing of mental testimonies, as well as collective braiding of twigs.

Finally, Susanne Danig will host a Climate Dinner and conversation, and she will be available for necessary conversations throughout the day.

There is also an opportunity to knot recycled fabric scraps or braid twigs, which will later become habitats for mushrooms and insects, as well as a food source for local birds.

Come to Vor Frue Kloster to talk, sing, build, knot, or participate in rituals and help create a community for Earth’s species. Sing out your climate grief, find your fellow species, and your inner climate warrior.

PASSAGE Planet is for everyone, and you can come and go and participate to the extent you desire throughout the day.

Linh Le (DK)

Linh Le works with dance, performance, and climate activism. Linh Le belongs to a new generation of artists exploring the possibility of finding a balance between growing desperation and the belief in an alternative way of being human/art. Madeleine Kate McGowan (DK)

Director and performer Madeleine Kate McGowan has long explored how the grief that arises in people in connection with the consequences of the climate crisis can possibly be collectively processed through art and voice. This has led to the performance “Solastalgia,” which was premiered in 2021 at Sort/Hvid in Copenhagen, in collaboration with scenographer Dicki Lakha, Cæcilie Trier, and Soho Rezanejad. The performance has resulted in a longer and deeper artistic investigation into the possibilities of art in relation to mental health in a time of multiple crises.

 

BIRCA

BIRCA is a laboratory for this new ecological performing arts, where artists have the opportunity to research and develop their ideas and projects while actively being supported in exploratory and collaborative approaches to the artistic processes. This research takes place in close dialogue with the surrounding community and with a focus on the local identity and nature of Bornholm. BIRCA focuses on how performing arts can act in relation to the climate and biodiversity crisis we are facing. Through artistic expressions and interventions, they contribute to creating visions for a future where we can live in harmony with the nature we are a part of. Susanne Danig

Susanne Danig holds a Master’s degree in Literature and Modern Culture and Cultural Communication from the University of Copenhagen. She has worked in the performing arts industry for over 30 years, with a focus on international relations. She now operates her own coaching company, Danig Performing Arts Service, and serves as the director of the residency site BIRCA located in Bornholm.
