MORE ABOUT PASSAGE Summer Camp

Since 2021, the PASSAGE festival has been hosting a free volunteer camp for European youths aged 18-25 years old, offering a two-week folk high school-inspired camp for up to 16 youths from Denmark and the rest of Europe. The camp takes place as part of the PASSAGE Festival.

WEEK 1 | In the week prior to the PASSAGE Festival, the youths participate in workshops led by artists, focusing on artistic formats. The youths’ work culminates in a showcase that is part of the festival’s official program. EXAMPLES OF WORKSHOPS:

  • Choreographer Mette Overgaard from Running Sculptures | Working with looping choreography, improvisation, and movement. See more here.
  • Participants/performers in the performance DRIFT by David Somlo in public spaces as well as facilitators of the performances COLLECTIVE MATTER  by SVALHOLM
  • Co-organizers and participants in POETRY IN BACKYARDS: Readings and moderated discussions with authors . In collaboration with local youths from Helsingør
  • Cavalettists in Cie Basinga’s spectacular OPEN LINES performance in a social housing area

WEEK 2 | In the camp’s second week, which takes place during the PASSAGE Festival itself, the youths become part of the festival team, assisting in festival preparation, execution, and audience management. Tasks may include establishing wayfinding in urban spaces, various communication tasks/audience management/backstage/execution, etc.

PASSAGE Festival is one of Northern Europe’s largest street theater festivals. It takes place every year in Helsingør in the last week of July/first week of August. The festival presents everything from spectacular new circus and street performances, classic street theater, and experimental performing arts, which can be experienced side by side on streets, alleys, and squares, on the beach, in the forest, in gymnasiums… public places we know and use in our everyday lives.

Every year, over 100 performing artists from around the world come to Helsingør to perform at the festival, and there is great and ever-increasing interest from the audience’s side.

With the PASSAGE Summer Camp, we aim to facilitate meetings between the festival’s organizers, local residents in Helsingør Municipality, the festival’s artists, and European youths.
