Few artists have dominated European theater in the last 30 years as much as Italian director Romeo Castellucci. His works have been performed on the biggest stages and festivals in the world, and it is now the fourth time that one of his works is shown in Helsingør. Castellucci’s works are cathedralic and monumental with references to classical European art, theater, music and literary history.
“The Third Reich” is Castellucci’s latest work. Castellucci’s starting point is Victor Klemperer’s book of the same title, in which Klemperer examined how the Nazis systematically worked the language of fascism into everyday German language. Castallucci’s work mostly consists of a video installation wherein the entirety of nouns in the dictionary are projected onto a giant screen. The words appear in tenths of a second, so fast that the audience’s consciousness lets go, and it is virtually impossible to focus on the individual word. Most words are lost in the nucleus of our language’s dissolution into white noise and chaos.
“The Third Reich” is a continuation and further development of a central theme on the role of rhetoric in art, as Romeo Castellucci has worked on several of his and Socìeta’s Raffaello Sanzio’s major works since the 1990s. “The Third Reich” is a representation of a monumental, controlled communication, the abuse of which is shown in the reduction of language to indifference and unification. In “The Third Reich” a language machine reduces the spaces of reality, all nouns in their mechanical reproduction appear alike, like prefabricated buildings, and as a new knowledge where no escape is possible and where all language pauses are filled with words.
The video installation begins with a symbolic handling, where a few characters set a ceremony in motion that turns on the language. The sound that accompanies the installation is apodictic and is composed by Scott Gibbons.

Tomica Bajsić was born in 1968 in Zagreb, Croatia. A poet, prose writer, graphic artist, and translator, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He has published five poetry books, two prose books, and a picture book. His poems have been translated into 20 languages in various international publications, literary magazines, chapbooks and anthologies like The Hundred Years’ War by Bloodaxe Books and most recently, Grand Tour Europe in Poems by German Academy. He was reading his work on many distinguished poetry festivals in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
His first poetry book Southern Cross was greeted as the most unique anti-war testimony in verse in Croatian literature, awarded with national prize for young authors and published also in Slovenian.
His recent poetry collection with drawings, Nevidljivo more / Invisible Sea, was published in 2018. His honors include the Ivan Goran Kovačić and Dobriša Cesarić Awards and the National Award for Poetry.
Tomica Bajsić was a longtime editor for poetry in translation of the Croatian literary magazine Poezija.

Alen Mešković is Danish-Bosnian writer and translator. He was born in Bosnia in 1977 and has lived in Denmark since 1994. His debut was the critically acclaimed collection of poems Første gang tilbage (Back for the first time) in 2009. His first novel, Ukulele-jam (Ukulele Jam) from 2011 was nominated for the literary award Weekendavisens Litteraturpris and sold for publishing in eight countries, including Germany and UK. It is also being staged as a play in Germany (2016-19) and Bosnia (2020-). In 2012, Alen Mešković was awarded a 3-year working grant by the Danish Arts Foundation for the novel. One-Man Tent is a stand-alone sequel of Ukulele Jam and is published in three countries.

Ana Svetel is a poet, writer and anthropologist from Slovenia. Her poetry book Lepo in prav (2015) was shortlisted for the Debut of the Year award, while her collection of short stories Dobra družba (2019) was shortlisted for the literary award Novo Mesto. Her new poetry collection, Marmor will come out in early 2022. Her texts regularly appear in major Slovenian literary magazines, while several of her stories were adapted into radio plays and premiered on the National Radio. As an anthropologist, she is currently researching the socio-cultural aspects of weather and luminosity in Iceland. She won the first prize at the literary competition Straniščne spletke in 2019.

Ana Ristović was born 5th April 1972 in Belgrade, Serbia. She has finished comparative literature at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. She has been published 9 books of poetry: Snovidna voda (Dreamwater) (1994, Branko Radičević’s prize), Uže od peska (Rope of Sand) (1997), Zabava za dokone kćeri (Party for Lazybones Daughters) (1999, Prize of Branko Miljković and Prize at the Book fair in Igalo), Život na razglednici (Life on the postcard) (2003), Oko nule (Round the Zero) (2006), P.S – Selected Poems (2009) – Prize Milica Stojadinovic Srpkinja, 2010, Meteorski otpad (Meteoric Waste), 2013, Nešto svetli, izabrane pesme (Something Bright, Selected poems), Čistina (The Opening), 2015, Ruke u rukama (Hands in Hands), 2019, and a prose book Knjiga nestajanja (The Book of Vanishing), 2020. She has also received German prize for young European poetry Hubert Burda Preis (2005), and one of the most important poetry prizes in Serbia, Disova nagrada (2014) and Desanka Maksimović Prize (2018).
Her poems have been translated into English, German, Slovakian, Macedonian, Slovenian, Polish, Bulgarian, Swedish, Hungarian, and Finnish and have appeared in many anthologies and magazines at home and abroad. Her poetry books have been translated and published in Slovak, Slovenian, German, Hungarian, Macedonian, Polish and English (Ana Ristović, ,,Directions for Use”, translated by Maja and Steven Teref, Zephyr Press, USA, april 2017.) Her poem Round Zero, was declared by international jury of The Guardian magazine as one of the best love poems of the past 50 years. Her poems Snow in Your Shoes, translated by Maja and Steven Teref has been published in The New Yorker magazine, October 27th, 2014.
She spent a year as writer in residence on DAAD programme in Berlin (2018-2019).
She is also translator from Slovenian language, and has translated 40 books of modern Slovenian prose and poetry. She lives in Belgrade and works as a teacher.
About the translator
Ana Stanićević is a PhD student of Cultural Studies at the University of Iceland. She is a master of Nordic studies and has taught Norwegian at the University of Belgrade. Ana is also a translator and her Serbian translation of the book Mánasteinn by the renowned Icelandic writer Sjón was published last year in Serbia. Ana’s PhD thesis is on Nordic small press in the 21st century (2000-2020).

Normal Cake, Please is a fictional wedding taking place in Helsingør in August 2021. Unusual and unexpected, this site-specific, performance playfully addresses concepts of normality, freedom and cake.

Strange Still is a performance-action, a creation of the Camouflaged Creature. Past pandemic year has raised questions about isolation, silence and belonging, as well as material and virtual presences. Walls are speaking and listening but what kind of story will it tell?
The Camouflaged Creature is a silent trickster that creates ambiguity and slips between human and non-human bodies. The reason for hiding is unclear: is it a defense or a lure? Camouflaged bodies are invoking the Ghost, its forgotten songs, and stories, which resonate within the walls.
