At first glance, Antilia appears to be a classic circus arena where five artists perform their acts in rotation. Upon closer acquaintance, it is much more than that. It is a collective, a community that seeks to explore the relationship between the artist and the organizer, between the artwork and the audience, as they travel with a touring circus arena in Europe.

In Antilia, you can experience, among others:

DeVualè! af Antilia’s Cabaret (IT)

Four extravagant clowns into a stunning creazy cabaret!
As the Curtain opens, 4 clowns will reveal not just their artistic skills, but also their special personalities and relationships between them. They will combine comic gags with poetical moments. Devualè is en emotional experience, a special trip where the smile is mixed with refelction and where the extraordinary is melted
with ordinary. It describes the importance of friendship, how the human relationships could be as complicateed as simple at the same time. Sometimes the uman balance could have a crack and when it happens who can help you? Can anybody be able to save you?

Inbetween the performances, you can meet and have a chat,
not only with the artists but also with many Italian cultural figures who have traveled with the company (and who have brought an espresso machine and good Italian coffee with them…).

What is it like to be a circus artist in contemporary Europe? How do we create sustainable frameworks for European performing arts that ensure artists from the east and west, north and south can showcase their work throughout Europe?

Antilia is a touring circus arena inspired by circuses of bygone times when tents did not yet cover the stages. Antilia is a desire to share, dream, and create circus in an arena that encompasses not only performances but also places and emotions. Inside Antilia, you can feel the lively and direct connection between the audience and the artist in a magical and welcoming atmosphere.

YES LAND by Giulio Lanzafame (IT)

A clown-flooded circus performance
At first sight, it may seem like a chaotic house, but this is actually Giulio’s universe. Gulio, an eternal traveler in search of approval, is trying to put things in order and take control. Everything does not always run smoothly, but, with a little imagination, every hitch becomes an opportunity to find the positive side of things. Giulio Lanzafame combines a story about doing everything right with absurdity, charm and a dynamic combination of excessive clown, acrobatics, juggling and slackrope.

Boys* in Sync is researching the communal area of Nordvest in Helsingør built in the 1950s to provide green and affordable housing, inspired by the Athens Charter.

200 years earlier Heinrich von Kleist wrote “The Earthquake in Chile”, a short novel about a young couple whose love is socially forbidden and a society that tries to learn from a crisis.

Exploring its socio-political topography, stepping in and out of theatricality, Boys* in Sync is using the architecture as well as Kleist’s novel to raise the question: What does it need to build a community?

To deliver the performance in Helsingør, Tom will be travelling for over 2 months by foot, walking more than 800 km. (Added sea journeys make the distance over double that)

The journey is somewhere between a walk and a pilgrimage. It’s not just a means to an end, but the journey is an artwork itself – a clown-esque nomadic work of art that is both stupid and serious, combining Monty Python with a spiritual purpose. A new response to the challenges of touring performances in an environmentally sustainable way. LÆS MERE HER

Throughout the walk, Bailey will be wild-camping in ‘right to roam’ areas, carrying not only his own gear, but also a large piece of fabric containing a list of 44,000 extinct and endangered species on the IUCN Red List that he will display poignantly across various landscapes on his journey.

People he meets along the way will be invited to make personal imprints on this fabric  – contrasting the bleak past and present of species extinction, with feelings and hopes for the future.

From Scotland’s deforested, scarred landscapes to south Norway’s abundant forests, Tom will trace past, present and future treelines of boreal forests while picking up and spreading seeds methodically and rhythmically as part of the artwork.

In his characteristic performance style, the walk will be playfully themed as echoing journeys of Paleolithic hunter gatherers at the retreat of the last ice age, a clown-esque nomadic work of art that is both stupid and serious.

In the circus, as in everyday life, the artist risk our lives. They have nothing more certain than death. They believe that we are happy, unlimited, and capable of controlling nature. But what if we are not?

Maybe we can live a fuller life by accepting our human condition; in the end, we are all going to die. Maybe, accepting that everything doesn’t depend on us, will allow us to think about the present, about who we are, what we feel and what we want.

The performance consists of aerial exploration, vertical acrobatics, dance moves and live music. Dangerous circus acts are performed with a humorous twist, making the show enjoyable for the whole family.

Through puppets and objects a story unfolds about hands. Hands that have created most of the things we use. Hands that have unleashed the most sublime beauty and the most terrible atrocities. Hands that tell the stories that have united humans for so long. A part of the body that brings us back to what is tangible, everyday and handmade and that reconnects our body and mind.

On a twenty-five minute journey, from comedy to poetics, with anger, subtleness, great musicality and the gentle humour of an eyebrow, Guillem Albà (and his hands) leave us with a collective experience of proximity, using anything from dance, theatre, contemporary circus, puppetry and music to get us there.
A singular experience to remember the importance of what is human, simple and shared.

LIVING Circus takes hybrid circus beyond the public space and into locations that are not intended for performances – either PRIVATE or PUBLIC spaces, such as personal homes, living rooms, care institutions, cafés, libraries, prisons.

The different levels of intimacy play a profound part, and each location and the spectators are variable factors. LIVING Circus plays with these variables.

In LIVING Circus – Public, four circus artists, audiovisual artists, physical actors, and jazz musicians bring the circus into the main library in Helsingør, improvising in relation to the specific context, physical framework, and audience.

The artists playfully and actively invite and involve not just the audience, but people using these spaces for their (original) purpose, working or passing by.

Be Flat wants to stimulate curiosity for the unknown and a new view on the common (semi)public spaces in our cities.

LIVING Circus offers different performances: LIVING Circus Private, in private locations, and LIVING Circus Public. Each have their own logic, aesthetic, and message. Together they form LIVING Circus.

The audience can choose to experience just one or both, and in any order.

WORK IN PROGRESS: Structures is a part of the European Hand to hand circus and residency project, and was developed in an immersion residency in the vineyards of Joseph Perrier, house of Champagne, together with Le Palc, France.

A contemporary in-situ circus performance inspired by observations on French champagne making, vineyards, champagne cellars, workers and landscapes. “Structures” emerges as a living canvas, as the essence of a physical expression of circus bodies, nature and sound landscapes.

In “Structures”, Mille Lundt tests the boundaries between land and body, between sound and image and the blurring of the fine lines between what is real and unreal. A performative landscape, where body and sound sometimes merge into the landscape of a site, sometimes stand out as opposite individuals. A sound landscape emerges, comes closer to the ear. Champagne cellars, champagne worker’s routine of turning bottles and the harvesting of the vine, the making of champagne with nature in focus. An immersive ritual where the movement carries us into another dimension.

The performance invites you closer to the world of French champagne making, a battlefield of human industrial luxury products and ecology, while it opens for new ways of inhabiting a landscape.

How do we work with nature? When do we work against nature?
