FACE T(W)O

People Power Partnership (EU)
A largescale, public space performance featuring 32 European dancers and an oversized mirror.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF PASSAGE FESTIVAL 2024

FACE T(W)O addresses the discourse between digital and analog worlds.

Both aspects shape our lives and are part of our reality.

Inspired by this, the performance is designed from multiple perspectives, offering the audience a unique opportunity to experience the performance from different viewpoints.

An oversized mirror creates surprising impressions where the orientation of above and below, inside and outside, and real and virtual worlds are blurred.

FACE T(W)O was developed in collaboration with the young European dance ensemble. It provides insights into the numerous possibilities and pitfalls arising from the interaction and tension between digital and analog existence, expressed physically through high-level, urban dance.

THE MIRROR
The image of the mirror has been an integral part of European literature since antiquity. Its symbolism has undergone many changes and interpretations in the course of European history. As motif of the Doppelgänger, self-encounter, self-knowledge, fractured identity, reflection, vanity, mirror as gateway and passage into another world… In times of the internet, reflections of one’s own click behaviour play an increasingly important role (echo bubbles etc.). The metaverse promises freedom and a better world that is safer than our mundane analogue lives. It promises connection. Don’t we all want to be in contact with others?

ABOUT PEOPLE POWER PARTNERSHIP (2020-2024)

People Power Partnership (PPP) is a largescale, international urban dance & theatre project.

PPP will create a total of 14 performances, which will be presented 27 times, using mirrors, HipHop and urban dance as the language of expression. The performances will be in public spaces in 11 different European countries in a collaboration between 14 partner-cities and festivals.

PASSAGE Festival is one of the partners. Each partner has found 8 young dancers and performers to join the project.

PPP is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union

The two phases of PPP

In the first phase of the project, locally oriented and sitespecific productions was developed and presented at each festival and partner, co-created with the participants, working with the professional creative team from PAN.OPTIKUM.

In Helsingør, the performance was created by young dancers from Scandinavia and the Czech Republic and presented during PASSAGE Festival 2021

In the second phase of PPP, the young participants have created a largescale performance together with PAN.OPTIKUM, that will tour across Europe to all the partner-cities. Participants will be teamed up in several constellations.

Aktionstheater PAN.OPTIKUM, Germany, is in charge of the project and is known for creating large scale visual dance- and theatre productions.
