Delicate Balancing of a Twig

Dávid Somló (HU)
Who is balancing whom?

Delicate Balancing of a Twig is a participatory movement meditation exploring collective presence through a single shared gesture: Balancing an ordinary twig on the tiniest point of one’s knuckle.

This radically simple act invites care, sensitivity, and deep attention toward an utterly familiar, overlooked object. Practiced together in public space, it becomes a gentle performance—a “community without communication,” responding to our era’s longing for quiet, symbolic, and nonverbal ways of being together.

The interaction between participants and passersby creates a playful presence and a shared curiosity and reflection on our behavior in public space, and our connection to nature.

GREEN STREETS OF EUROPE PROJECT

The Hungarian artist Dávid Somló is one of the participating artists in the European project Green Streets of Europe (2023–2025). In April/ May, he was in artistic residency hosted by Helsingør Teater and PASSAGE Festival to further develop this performance.

In the Green Streets of Europe project, artists and festivals work together to rethink conventional structures for the production and international touring of performing arts works in public spaces. By opening up artistic residencies and workspaces to include local citizens and audiences, we believe it is possible to create longer-lasting and more sustainable formats and relationships together.
