L’air de Rien

Jeanne Simone (FR)
"There will probably be music, but we will find a quiet corner". A playful exploration of the camouflaged soundtrack of city spaces.

They are there to listen. Here. Now.

Two performers dive into both composing and visualizing the soundscape at a selected location in Helsingør.

With physical theater, drumsticks, and plenty of humor, they create a symphony in multiple movements, varying in key and tempo – and constantly discovering new instruments: In an increasingly frenzied stream of spontaneous interactions with the city’s life and elements (both stationary and moving), they make the place come alive.

All means are used in “L’air de Rien” (Nonchalantly). From lampposts to remote-controlled cars, cyclists, buses, and pedestrians – nothing escapes becoming part of the music.

We are not in the presence of a work of art, which is a thing, but of an action which is implicitly nothing.

John Cage, lecture on something.

There is a challenge to listen, to stay alert. This obsession gives them looks that may evoke the animal, the idiot or the visionary: an uninhibited lyricism that is undoubtedly contagious, a
wobbly rigour that is joyfully touching.

Events are like lights or flashes.

They compose, they somehow pretend. Gesticulating has a lot of taste. It is not a skill but rather vertigo, a vibrating desire.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Jeanne Simone explores a dramaturgy of bodies in relation to places and environments. Bodies dance to offer an ordinary solar expression rather than technical feats.  They are attentive to the acoustic environment and people. They use words to mix inner, political, and poetical intentions. They open breaches and try to develop a possible Common.  www.newsite.jeannesimone.com
